I have seen posts that mention a "block plate" and I see that some TBird vendors have a starter seal which I assume is rubber, for the 1961 starter. Just swap the flexplate with the proper type and bolt the trans back up. The 400 flexplate will have a weight welded to it and a 350 wont. I am considering replacement with a 184 tooth flexplate and a mini starter due to heat/clearance concerns and better availability of starters (Powermaster for instance) for 184 tooth flexplates. Just unbolt the trans and drop it a few inches and roll it back far enough to get to the flexplate bolts. During engine removal we noticed that the flywheel/flexplate is chipped and will require replacement. I will continue to use my rebuilt COM transmission after this work. Re-installation will include FPA headers. It's completely different than the '66 390 plate shown above. Here's a photo of a '66 428 flex plate which includes its balance weight. The 390 engine in my 61 TBird is out for a rebuild. Stubbie is correct in that the flex plate for the 428 is externally balanced while the 390 is internally balanced, so putting a 428 plate in a 390 engine would certainly cause a nasty vibration.
